Job Summary:

As the Russian invasion expands in Ukraine, the United Nations (UN) estimates that more than four million Ukrainians will be forced to flee the country if there is no cessation of the invasion. Already an estimated 84,000 refugees have crossed into Moldova, with about half moving on to other countries in the EU and the other half settling in Moldova. Caritas Moldova is responding to the refugee crisis, working to serve conflict-affected Ukrainians in Moldova.

As the Volunteer Coordinator, you will organize and coordinate Caritas Moldova’s volunteers. You will motivate and inspire community members (young or old) to support Caritas Moldova’s work, and thereby contribute to high quality programming.

Roles and Key Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with those who are providing in-kind donations to organize drop-off at Caritas Moldova office or appropriate project site through messages and phone calls
  • Meet with those who are providing in-kind donations when they drop them off and express Caritas Moldova’s gratitude for their support to the emergency response
  • Promote Caritas Moldova’s emergency response programming through meetings, reports, and other activities
  • Coordinate with project coordinators and other project staff to distribute in-kind donations where needed
  • Maintain a record and monitoring of in-kind donations
  • May support with assessing needs of beneficiaries, elaborate individualized intervention plans, and support reporting and record-keeping of beneficiaries as needed.
  • May support with implementation of emergency response project activities as needed

Additionally, the Social Worker for In-Kind Donation Support has specific Safeguarding Duties:

- Take responsibility for fully understanding the policy and its implications.

- Follow the Code of Ethics and Conduct and follow the Safeguarding Policy at all times (in your professional and personal life) and ask for clarification if something is not clear

- Perform work duties in a manner that does not harm children, vulnerable adults or other employees / volunteers or expose them to additional risks of abuse or exploitation

-Promote an environment of respect and trust in the office and in the field with beneficiaries and community members

- Report any Safeguarding issues according to Caritas Moldova procedures.

Basic Qualifications

  • University degree required.
  • 1-2 years of work experience, experience working with vulnerable populations a plus
  • Driver’s License and ability to drive required

Required Languages – Written and spoken proficiency in Russian and Romanian. Proficiency in English preferred.

Travel – Must be willing and able to travel within Moldova, including to border areas, up to 50%.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Good relationship management skills and the ability to work closely with volunteers, staff, community members and other stakeholders
  • Computer skills (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.)
  • Analytical thinker with good organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Knowledge and observance of moral and ethical norms, as well as professional ethics
  • Ability to write clearly and coherently
  • Ability to establish trust with vulnerable populations
  • Ability to communicate with many different stakeholders and promote Caritas Moldova’s projects and programs

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

 

Key Working Relationships:

Internal: Assistant Project Coordinators, Project Coordinators, Caritas Moldova Director, and other Caritas Moldova staff

External: Catholic Parishes, Catholic Relief Services, community members, collective center employees, UNHCR, other NGO and faith-based actors
