Capacity Building and Fundraising Intern

Organizational context
Rising is a non-governmental organization supporting mission-driven actors in the Republic of Moldova to strengthen their institutional readiness and improve access to funding, partnerships, and development opportunities.
Rising works with civil society organizations, small and medium enterprises, local public authorities through capacity assessment, capacity development, funding monitoring, grant matching, and application support. Its work is focused on helping local actors better understand their institutional standing, address capacity gaps, and engage with funding opportunities in a structured and informed manner.
Purpose of the internship
Rising is seeking a motivated Capacity Building and Fundraising Intern part-time to support its work across public institutions and the private sector.
The internship is designed for an early-career candidate who wishes to gain practical experience in institutional capacity building, fundraising, donor mapping, grant monitoring, and project development. The intern will work under the guidance of Rising’s leadership and will contribute to research, documentation, coordination, and drafting tasks related to the accompaniment of consulted entities and funding support.
Through this opportunity, the intern will gain exposure to how organizations assess institutional capacity, identify development gaps, monitor funding opportunities, prepare donor-facing materials, and strengthen their readiness for partnerships and resource mobilization.
Duties and responsibilities
Under the supervision of Rising’s leadership, the intern will support the organization’s work in the following areas:
- Support donor and funding opportunity mapping, including grants, development programmes, private sector opportunities, and other relevant funding instruments;
- Monitor relevant funding calls and prepare concise summaries of opportunities, including eligibility criteria, deadlines, thematic priorities, and relevance for potential applicants;
- Assist with the preparation and maintenance of files for consulted entities, internal trackers, grant monitoring tables, document checklists, and other working tools;
- Support the review and organization of documentation provided by consulted entities, including organizational profiles, project references, policies, registration documents, and donor materials;
- Draft meeting notes, follow-up messages, short briefs, internal summaries, and basic inputs for project concepts, funding applications, organizational profiles, and capacity-building materials;
- Conduct background research on Moldova’s development ecosystem, public sector priorities, EU integration agenda, donor requirements, and private sector engagement opportunities;
- Provide coordination and administrative support to Rising’s leadership and support team.
Learning objectives
During the internship, the selected candidate is expected to develop practical knowledge and skills in institutional capacity building, donor and funding intelligence, fundraising processes, accompaniment of supported organizations and institutions, project concept development, and preparation of funding-related materials.
The internship will also provide exposure to Moldova’s civil society, public sector, private sector, and development cooperation ecosystem, as well as to Rising’s internal tools, templates, trackers, and structured accompaniment processes.
Eligibility and qualifications
This opportunity is suitable for undergraduate and graduate students, recent graduates, and candidates with no professional experience or less than one year of work experience.
Relevant academic backgrounds may include public administration, international relations, European studies, political science, development studies, economics, business administration, management, law, social sciences, communications, project management, public policy, or other related fields.
Previous work experience is not required. Prior volunteering, university project work, student association involvement, research experience, or participation in civic, social, public-sector, or development-related initiatives would be considered an advantage.
Competencies
Rising is looking for a candidate who is result-oriented, responsible, open to learning, and able to adapt to different tasks. The ideal candidate should demonstrate attention to detail, good communication and drafting skills, and the ability to conduct structured research, summarize information clearly, work with documents and trackers, and support several tasks in parallel under guidance.
The candidate should also demonstrate professional curiosity, reliability, discretion when working with information provided by consulted entities, and interest in Moldova’s development, civil society, public sector, private sector, or funding ecosystem.
Language requirements
Advanced Romanian and English are required. Free command of Russian is required.
Conditions of the internship
The internship is paid and is expected to run from May 2026 to October 2026 on a part-time basis. The selected intern will work closely with Rising’s leadership and support team and will receive practical mentorship throughout the internship period.
Upon successful completion, the intern will receive a certificate confirming their participation and contribution. The internship may be extended or transformed into another role depending on performance, organizational needs, and available opportunities.
