Volunteer Coordinator for Moldova - Locals only 

 

Lifting Hands International is looking for a Volunteer coordinator to start in November 2022 and commit for at least six months (locals only). This is an ideal role for someone considering a career in humanitarian aid or nonprofit work in a similar role, who is excited for the opportunity to make a large impact at a small and growing NGO.

About Us

Lifting Hands International (LHI) provides assistance to refugees throughout the world. We have operated in Moldova since March 2022, supporting a large number of partner NGOs across the country and providing humanitarian aid to the refugee population. 

We aim to start psycho-social support (PSS) programs with teams based in Moldova's two largest cities, ie Chisinau and Balti. Our projects help beneficiaries overcome psychological distress, improve their social skills, promote personal and professional development, and build resilience.

Profile rollers

  • Recruiting both international and local volunteers (putting out calls, screening candidates, conducting interviews)
  • Coordinating incoming volunteers/staff members and onboarding them upon arrival
  • Ensuring effective monitoring of volunteer satisfaction and engagement
  • Managing conflicts and concerns of an HR nature among the team
  • Coordinating community volunteers (recruiting, training, and ensuring effective monitoring and engagement of volunteers among our beneficiary population)
  • Facilitating engagement with the local community
  • Overseeing two multicultural teams of managers and volunteers, one in Balti and one in Chisinau, with regular visits to both teams for feedback sessions.
  • Other duties as they emerge or as assigned.

 

As Volunteer coordinator you work under the supervision of the Director of Operations to lead and empower the members of our teams and generally ensure the success of our Moldova programs. 

NOTES: As the PSS programs will start next year, ideally mid-January, you will initially be in charge of the recruitment of managers and volunteers and facilitating the setting up of programs.

Essential criteria:

  • Minimum six month commitment
  • At least 1 year of management experience in a multicultural team
  • An understanding of programs in a grassroots humanitarian context 
  • Proven strong written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proven ability to work in a self-directed way without constant supervision
  • Must be a fluent English, Russian, Romanian speaker

Desirable criteria:

  • Relevant degree(s) in education, social work, sociology or a related field 
  • Knowledge of Ukrainian language
  • International driving license
