American Councils for International Education announces "FLEX 2025-2026 Academic Exchange Program"
The FLEX program, now in its 31st year, is funded by the United States Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) and administered by the American Councils for International Education with the support of the US Embassy in Moldova. The FLEX scholarship offers selected students the opportunity to live with an American family and study in a US high school for the 2025-2026 academic year.
Both the competition and the participation are free.
Students in 9, 10, and 11 grades who meet the following criteria are eligible to enter the competition this fall:
- Studies in the Republic of Moldova
- Have Moldovan citizenship
- Born between January 1st 2008 and July 15, 2010
- Study English
- Meet U.S. visa eligibility requirements
- Haven’t spent more than 3 months in the last 5 years in the U.S.
*Students with disabilities born between 15 February 2007 and 15 July 2010 are also eligible to participate in the FLEX program. We will make special arrangements to test students with visual, hearing, and other disabilities.
Applicants can participate in the application process from anywhere they can access the internet, using either a mobile device or a computer.
FLEX recruitment will include three rigorous rounds of testing, conducted online and offline. The first round of testing is open to all applicants who meet the above eligibility criteria from August 1st to September 26, 2024. This includes an online preliminary application and three essay questions that must be submitted within 10 days from the start of the online application.

After submitting the preliminary application, the selected students will be invited by their e-mails to participate in Round 2, which consists of an online English test. This is a short 15-minute test, and applicants will receive the invitation within 24 hours of submitting their application for the first round. The students will have about 24 hours to complete this online English test.
The third and final round of testing will begin in October-December 2024. Round 3 will include an interview, three more essay questions, a comprehensive English test, and the application itself. Students who pass this stage will be contacted by the American Councils office in Chisinau with more details.
