Data Analysis Intern - USAID Moldova Future Technologies Activity
The USAID Future Technologies Activity (FTA), implemented by Chemonics International, seeks two Data Analysis Interns.
The USAID Future Technologies Activity continues USAID, Sweden, and UK Aid’s legacy of sector competitiveness programming, building on lessons learned and adaptions, relationships, and local partner trust achieved by previous programs over the past 15 years. FTA uses a global market systems framework to continue to build capacity for sustainable, systemic progress while applying best practices to new partners and sectors. FTA co-creates systemic interventions with Moldovan partners to transform selected sectors by applying new technologies, promoting innovation, and integrating with global markets. FTA focuses on infusing digitalization, innovation and creativity, and sustainability across all sectors, with a particular focus on urban-based technology-enabled sectors including light manufacturing, information and communication technology (ICT), engineering, creative industries, and digital media.
DESCRIPTION OF LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES
Interns will assist with research and analysis the development of the Moldova startup ecosystem, including the development of the ecosystem wide strategy. Activities will focus on data collection, research and analysis of the local status and the international best practices to be considered for startup ecosystem development strategy, as well as potential support across FTA’s technical areas, including startups, ICT, export promotion, finance and investment, workforce development, green economy, creative industries, and/or digital media, as well as monitoring, evaluation, and learning.
This opportunity offers the interns a learning environment in which they will gain knowledge, skills, and abilities relevant to their studies, while at the same time contributing to the overall objectives of FTA. Daily activities will range from supporting administrative and technical needs, to assisting with planning and organizing events, and/or completing ad hoc research assignments. Tasks include:
- Work closely with FTA’s Senior Entrepreneurship and Startups Manager, shadowing and learning from the manager, while assisting with FTA tasks as assigned.
- Research and compile data on the current state of the Moldovan startup ecosystem, including data available to FTA, public data and market reports done in the past.
- Identify relevant benchmarks from comparable ecosystems, including relevant regulatory structures and incentives, private sector initiatives and data on their impact.
- Analyze and visualize data, using tools such as Excel, PowerPoint and/or similar applications, to structure the information and facilitate insights.
- Participate in creative brainstorming sessions with the FTA team and potentially other external stakeholders to develop actionable recommendations.
- Performs other duties as necessary or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Enrollment in an accredited university program, or a recent graduate.
- Strong research and analytical skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Demonstrated interest in learning and working in FTA’s target sectors, including startups, innovation and economic development and/or on international donor-funded projects.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with a demonstrated ability to be proactive, resourceful, solutions-oriented, results-oriented, and with the ability to meet deadlines.
LOCATION AND DURATION
The location of the assignment is in Chisinau, with local travel within Moldova as needed. The period of performance will be from on/about January 15, 2024 - on/about July 31, 2025.
SUPERVISION
The interns will report directly to FTA's Senior Entrepreneurship and Startups Manager.
