GENERAL CONTEXT AND BACKGROUND: 

HEKS/EPER is a Swiss INGO founded in 1946. HEKS/EPER is supporting local partner organizations with around 200 projects in 34 key countries worldwide. HEKS/EPER Moldova Office cooperates with NGO active in the field of development cooperation and humanitarian aid.  

HEKS/EPER was active in the Republic of Moldova from 2004 to 2020 and the latest Country Program 2016-2020 was aiming at improving the living conditions for people in the rural areas of the Republic of Moldova. The focus on the rural areas addressed the disparities and inequalities in development of urban and rural areas in Moldova.  

Due to such a context and knowing that HEKS/EPER has a previous strong experience in the country by supporting local partners, it has been decided to open again the Country Office (CO) based in Chișinău. HEKS/EPER implements projects through well-known partners, local and national NGOs with strong expertise and experience. 

Work in Tech is a program implemented by HEKS/EPER in Moldova, with the support of INCO and Google.org, under which learners from Moldova will receive free access to Google Professional Certificates courses on the Coursera portal as well as a diverse array of complimentary training sessions, webinars, and English lessons both offline and online. 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS: 

The English Teacher (Romanian and Russian Speaker) is essential for the successful delivery of the Work in Tech program, focusing on providing high-quality English language instruction to Romanian and Russian - speaking participants of the Work in Tech program. This part-time, online role is dedicated to enhancing participants' language skills, which are crucial for their success in the tech industry. The English Teacher reports to the Program Officer and works closely with the team, participants, and second English Teacher (for the Ukrainian participants), ensuring an engaging and effective learning experience tailored to the needs of Romanian/Russian speakers. This role emphasizes interactive and practical language learning to support participants in achieving their professional goals. 

Main responsibilities 

Tasks 

Project Implementation  

Plan and Deliver Lessons: 

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that align with the Work in Tech program’s objectives. 
  • Deliver engaging and interactive online English lessons tailored to the needs of Romanian/Russian speaking participants. 

Assess Student Progress: 

  • Conduct regular assessments to evaluate participants' language proficiency and progress. 
  • Provide constructive feedback to help participants improve their language skills. 

Create Learning Materials: 

  • Develop and curate educational materials and resources that support language learning. 
  • Utilize a variety of multimedia tools and platforms to enhance the learning experience. 

Facilitate Communication: 

  • Encourage and facilitate effective communication among participants, fostering a collaborative learning environment. 
  • Promote practical language use through discussions, group activities, and real-world applications. 

Support Individual Learning Needs: 

  • Identify and address individual learning needs and challenges of participants. 
  • Offer additional support and resources for participants who require extra assistance. 

Collaborate with Program Team: 

  • Work closely with the Program Officer and other team members to ensure the program's objectives are met. 
  • Participate in regular team meetings and contribute to program development and improvement. 

Monitor and Report: 

  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, participation, and progress. 
  • Prepare and submit regular reports on student performance and program outcomes to the Program Officer. 

Stay Updated with Teaching Practices: 

  • Keep abreast of the latest trends and best practices in language teaching. 
  • Engage in professional development opportunities to continuously improve teaching skills. 

Promote a Positive Learning Environnent: 

  • Foster a supportive and inclusive atmosphere that encourages active participation and mutual respect. 
  • Address any issues or conflicts that may arise, ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment. 

Skills and Abilities  

  • Fluency in English, Romanian and Russian, with excellent command of the mentioned languages, including strong speaking, reading, and writing skills Proven experience in teaching 
  • English as a Second Language (ESL) or English as a Foreign Language (EFL)  
  • Ability to design and implement effective lesson plans and learning materials tailored to adult learners  
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage and motivate participants, providing clear instructions and constructive feedback  
  • Proficient in using online learning platforms (e.g., Zoom) and educational software, with the ability to troubleshoot basic technical issues  
  • Competence in assessing language proficiency, tracking student progress, and adapting teaching methods based on feedback  
  • Ability to adapt teaching strategies to meet diverse needs and provide flexible scheduling to accommodate participants' varying availability  
  • Strong organizational skills for managing lesson planning, student records, and reporting  
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to the cultural backgrounds of Ukrainian-speaking participants, fostering an inclusive learning environment  
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the program team, contributing to the overall goals of the Work in Tech program, and ensuring effective communication with colleagues.  

Experience/Qualifications 

  • Experience in teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) or English as a Foreign Language (EFL), particularly with adult learners (18+)  
  • Proven ability to teach and keep participants motivated in an online learning environment  
  • Strong understanding of effective online teaching strategies and tools 
  • Demonstrated ability to create engaging lesson plans and adapt teaching methods to diverse learner needs  
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to foster a supportive and interactive learning atmosphere  
  • Cultural sensitivity and awareness, particularly with Ukrainian-speaking participants Relevant certification or qualifications in English teaching are preferred but not mandatory 

Others  

  • The English Teacher must follow GDPR compliance guidelines  
  • Should be open to a flexible schedule for English lessons, agreed in advance with the Program Officer  
  • Available for occasional offline meetings at the office  
  • Possess a personal computer with a reliable Wi-Fi connection  
  • Will have the opportunity to join our program and enroll in one of our four specializations: IT Support, Digital Marketing and E-Commerce, Project Man agement or UX Design
