Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities):The British Embassy in Chisinau is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit a regional Counter Disinformation Officer.
To work closely with the Counter Disinformation and Media Development (CDMD) Eastern Neighbourhood team, based at the British Embassy in Tbilisi, to best inform and contribute to the British Government’s fight against disinformation in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. The CDMD Programme leads the UK's foreign policy approach to disinformation in the region. It is a £30m a year programme managed from London working across the Baltics, Central Europe and the Eastern Neighbourhood.
This is a new role at the forefront of the UK’s counter disinformation efforts. It will involve regular travel within Moldova and the region, and engagement with a wide range of stakeholders. The main purposes of the job are: i) to report on the media environment and disinformation activity, through regular fieldwork and analysis; and ii) manage projects designed to push back against this threat.
This role is an integral part of the wider CDMD network, responsible for reporting to London and project delivery in the region, adding value to this process through in-depth expertise specific to this area of work. It requires regular reporting on disinformation in the region to help inform decision-making by senior officials based in London, as well as local efforts to progress our media development and wider counter disinformation work.
Some translation and interpreting will also make up part of the role.
Main duties and responsibilities
Research & Analysis – 50%
- Work with the Embassy to identify audiences most vulnerable to disinformation into the region, before corroborating this desk-based research with between four and ten visits to the region per year. This work will first start with Moldova and then expand from there.
- Compiling comprehensive regular reporting for senior officials on the nature of disinformation in the region.
Project Management – 25%
- This role will include project management of a number of regional media development projects and involvement
Coordination – 25%
- Coordination of local NGOs is central to the effort against disinformation and this will also be an important part of the role. You will bring together stakeholders from across the region to devise counter disinformation best practice before implementing this through project delivery.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience:
- Fluency in English, Romanian and Russian (both oral and written, minimum C1 level*).
- At least 3 years of experience of project management. Strong administrative skills and experience of working in a team.
- University degree, ideally in international relations, peace and security or similar.
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience:
- Experience of working in an international organisation, civil society or government agency.
- Experience of working in the media or fact-checking organisation.
- Analytical skills or evidence of regional and/or NATO Defence and Security experience
