UNICEF Moldova is currently providing support to national institutions such as the Ministry of Education and Research, and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development. This support aims to contribute to achieving the Water and Sanitation Strategy 2030 targets and accelerate the delivery of improved, safely managed water and sanitation services.

The provision of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services is essential, and national institutions have expressed their commitment to prioritizing WASH interventions. To assist the national authorities in achieving this goal, UNICEF is helping to improve school infrastructure and standards, ensuring access to clean water and sanitation, and promoting hygiene practices for children of all genders, ages, and abilities.

UNICEF Moldova is looking for a WASH Officer to provide professional technical, operational and administrative assistance throughout the WASH programming process, through the application of theoretical and practical technical skills in researching, collecting, analyzing and presenting programme information while learning organizational rules, regulations and procedures to support the development, implementation and monitoring of the WASH output results of the Country Programme.

Minimum requirements: 

  • Education: A university degree in one of the following fields is required: public health, social sciences, behaviour change communication, water and sanitation engineering or another relevant technical field.
  • Work Experience: A minimum of one year of professional work experience in WASH-related programmes is required.
  • Language Requirements: Fluency in Romanian and working knowledge of English is required.

Desirables:

  • Additional relevant courses that complement/supplement the main degree are strong assets.
  • Relevant experience in a UN system agency is considered an asset.

Technical Knowledge Required:

Basic knowledge of at least two of the following four components:

  • Urban and rural water supply, including water safety and sustainability.
  • Urban and rural sanitation, including centralised and on-site sanitation solutions, and sustainability.
  • Hygiene promotion.
  • National government water and sanitation (WASH) policies, plans, strategies, and water and sanitation sector actors, stakeholders, and communities.

Basic knowledge of at least two of the following four components:

  • Programme/project management.
  • Capacity development.
  • Knowledge management.
  • Monitoring and evaluation.

Additionally, basic knowledge of both of the following components:

  • Human rights and WASH.
  • Gender equality and WASH.
