Organizational Setting: FAO is implementing an emergency program in Moldova to support vulnerable people living in rural areas with required agriculture inputs for the planting season and technical assistance on sustainable and resilient agriculture production through Farmer Field School (FFS). The aim of the Emergency Program is to mitigate the negative effects of the multiple crisis on agri-food systems. The activities will be implemented through three different projects with harmonized performance indicators and synergized outputs. The projects second output is to increase the capacities of small farmers to apply climate-smart agriculture and other innovative techniques in the vegetable and livestock sectors through FFS
FAO also is conducting a value-chain analysis of the cattle dairy sub-sector, through literature review, interviews of key informants and a sample survey on the three segments in this value-chain; household producers (typically 1-2 cows); small livestock holding (typically 15-30 cows) and large livestock enterprises (more than 100 cows). The study will inform and guide longer term intervention opportunities in the sub-sector

Reporting Lines: Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Moldova, the technical supervision of the Senior Animal Production Health Officer at the Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia, National FFS coordinator and in collaboration with Project team and the relevant service providers and partners. The Consultant will be provided with the necessary information, materials, and logistics for the fulfilment of his/her tasks.

 

Tasks and responsibilities:

The National Consultant will support the International Expert on Livestock Value Chains in the following tasks:

Data Collection and Analysis:

• Work with publicly available national and international databases.

• Collect and analyze relevant livestock value chain data.

• Translate statistical data from Romanian to English.

Liaison with National Agencies:

• Contact national databases and statistical agencies to collect data and gain access to relevant datasets.

• Facilitate communication and data exchange with relevant institutions.

Support in Research Activities:

• Assist in preparing reports and presentations based on analyzed data.

• Provide input and support during project meetings and discussions.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Qualifications

·       Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, livestock sector, veterinary or economy

·       Proved capacities in agribusiness and livestock/dairy sector development.

·       Proved experience of theoretic and practical topics in dairy breeding: animal nutrition, veterinary, dairy farm management etc
