Senior Rule of Law Officer

The Senior Rule of Law Officer will be working under the responsibility of the Deputy Head of Mission, and will work closely together with the Ambassador, the Policy Officer Political Affairs and other colleagues in Chisinau and The Hague.

Description of duties

• Monitoring and analyzing developments about Moldova’s European path, in particular in the area of rule of law and democracy, including a special focus on the justice sector reform in Moldova;
  • Drawing up policy briefs for the ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague, in coordination with the Deputy Head of Mission and the Policy Officer for Political Affairs;
  • Contributing to Dutch (project) support to Moldova’s reform agenda; expanding the network of the Embassy.
  • Monitoring the implementation of the NL/EU project in support of vetting. Maintaining close relations with Dutch organization CILC that is implementing this project;
  • (Co-) organization of public diplomacy activities in the mentioned fields;
  • Project management work, such as managing the project of judicial reform
  • Keeping in touch with and participating in meetings with international partners, such as the EU Delegation, embassies, UN agencies, Worldbank/IMF, etc;
  • Supporting incoming missions, including the preparation of the programme and preparing files and speaking notes;
  • (Co-) managing the social media of the Embassy (website, Facebook, LinkedIn);
  • Being part of a close knit team, helping out, executing other diplomatic tasks.

Job requirements

• Relevant university degree;
  • At least three years of relevant working experience, preferably in an intercultural context;
  • Experience and knowledge in rule of law related issues in Moldova, particularly of the justice sector reforms; knowledge of the functioning of the European union;
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent command of the Russian, Romanian and English language (in word and writing); command of the Dutch language is an asset;

The senior rule of law officer is a flexible team-player as well as an independent professional with a political antenna that is well developed, a large network of contacts that are relevant to the justice and rule of law work of the Embassy.

Type of Position

This is a full-time position (37,5 hours per week), initially for the fixed period of 1 May 2024 – 30 April 2025. After proven suitability there is a possibility that the contract will be extended.
