UKRAINE CRISIS

Over 5 million Refugees estimated to have fled to neighboring countries since 24 February

The Russian Federation launched a military offensive against Ukraine on 24 February 2022. As of today, more than 5 million refugees have fled Ukraine, making this the fastest growing refugee crisis since World War II. A further 7.7

million people have been displaced internally within Ukraine. People are fleeing their homes to try to find safety elsewhere. The situation remains extremely dangerous for anyone inside Ukraine and the vulnerability of those forced to flee is increasing rapidly, with more in need of immediate support.

INTERSOS IN MOLDOVA

Since February 24 till April 25, a total of 433,214 Refugee Arrivals have been registered in Moldova, of which 101,331 are staying in Moldova.

Between March 3 and 4, INTERSOS started the first activities in support of the population in transit in Moldova. We started working at the borders, in the South East of the country, with operational headquarters in the capital Chisinau. We have activated a mobile clinic to offer primary health assistance to refugees in transit in the border point of Palanca, which is only 60km from Odessa. Here, as in the nearby border point of Tudora, we are also ensuring, in cooperation with UNHCR, protection activities: identification of vulnerable people, referral, direct psychosocial support and information. In the cities of Ștefan Vodă and Căplani, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, we have launched an intervention in support of local health centers and general practitioners through the deployment of mobile medical teams in five areas of Ștefan Vodă district.
