Cultural Mediator - Intersos
INTERSOS is a humanitarian oganization working on the protection of Ukrainian refugee at Palanca, Tudora borders and Chisinau.
All INTERSOS employees are expected to perform their roles and responsibilities according to the INTERSOS charter of values, code of ethics, PSEA and Child Protection policies. The job description is mandatory for all positions within INTERSOS and shall be signed by the employee within the first week of employment.
Purpose/objective of the position:
The cultural mediator is responsible for supporting the protection team (and the health and logistics teams when needed) in translating and interpreting from local language to English, conducting awareness sessions to the refugee communities, and informing them about the next steps and rights, S/he will act as focal points between the Protection team and the communities of refugees, overcoming the language barrier.
Generic Duties:
- Provide support to INTERSOS team with translation to/from English;
- Assist the team in coordination with relevant stakeholders;
- Participate in training provided by INTERSOS about Protection, safe identification and referrals, PSEA, MHPSS, CP and GBV;
- Report to hierarchical coordinator in case of any issue, difficulty or need arising from activities implementation;
- Write reports to hierarchical coordinator according to a coordinated timing;
- Support in the development of information materials;
- Map main service providers in the area of intervention and identify and report gaps in the availability of services and quality of service provision;
- Carry out all tasks respecting key protection principles including but not limited to: do no harm, non-discrimination, confidentiality, accountability and need-to-know principles;
- Conduct any other duty as requested from the Protection Manager.
Person Specification:
Education and professional experience:
- University Degree in English language and translation preferrable
- One year of professional experience as translator/interpreter;
- Previous working experience in the third sector is preferred.
