Short-Term Driver Messenger - Peace Corps Moldova
LOCATION: Based in Chișinău, Moldova
CLASSIFICATION: Temporary contracted position for June-August 2026
COMPENSATION: Daily rate of $35.64 USD

Pre-Services Training (PST) Driver Messenger
PST Driver Messenger: The PST Driver Messenger works under the supervision of the Training Manager (TM), who oversees all aspects of Pre-Service Training (PST) and in close coordination with the Training Assistant (TA) and the Homestay Coordinator (HFC), on implementation of the designated tasks related to PST. The incumbent will be responsible for providing safe transportation services, logistical and messenger support, vehicle maintenance, and operational assistance to staff, trainees, volunteers, and official visitors.
The position requires a high level of professionalism, discretion, flexibility, and adherence to Peace Corps safety and operational standards.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Transportation Services

Provide safe, timely, and reliable transportation for Peace Corps staff, trainees, volunteers, consultants, and official visitors.

Operate Peace Corps vehicles in accordance with local traffic regulations and Peace Corps policies.

Support transportation needs for PST activities, field visits, meetings, airport transfers, and official events.

Always ensure passenger safety and maintain professional conduct while representing Peace Corps Moldova.
Messenger and Administrative Support

Deliver and collect official correspondence, mail, documents, training materials, supplies, and equipment.

Assist with logistical arrangements and transportation coordination during training events and operational activities.

Support office and training teams with administrative and operational tasks when required.
Vehicle Maintenance and Safety

Conduct daily vehicle inspections and ensure vehicles remain in safe operating condition.

Maintain cleanliness and proper functioning of assigned vehicles.

Monitor fuel, oil, tires, battery, brakes, and general vehicle performance.

Coordinate routine servicing, repairs, and technical inspections as required.

Immediately report accidents, malfunctions, or safety concerns to the supervisor.
Record Keeping and Compliance

Maintain accurate vehicle logs, mileage records, fuel consumption reports, and maintenance documentation.

Ensure compliance with Peace Corps safety standards, vehicle usage policies, and local transportation regulations.

Follow all Peace Corps security procedures and emergency protocols
Desired Qualifications and Skills:

Education: Completion of secondary school is required.

Language: Limited knowledge of Speaking/Reading English is required. Good working knowledge of Speaking/Reading Romanian and Russian is required.

A valid driver’s license with category B is required. Must have good driving skills in winter and summer conditions.

Must be minimum age (25) and have 5 years’ experience as a licensed driver.

Knowledge of basic automotive mechanics is required (to be able to note and describe irregularities to mechanics, and address emergency situations).

Knowledge of local routes required

Ability to work long hours away from Chisinau and respond to emergencies at late hours in the evening or early mornings.

Important to obey all traffic laws and not abuse the diplomatic privileges extended to Peace Corps by the Moldovan Government when issuing CD licenses.
