Background
Organizational Setting
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is an intergovernmental organization with more than 194 member nations. Since its inception, FAO has worked to alleviate poverty and hunger by promoting agricultural development, improved nutrition, and the pursuit of food security - defined as the access of all people at all times to the food they need for an active and healthy life. The main aim of FAO Representation in Moldova is to support the development of the agri-food sector through development assistance programmes and projects. Since 2022 FAO Moldova is also implementing an emergency programme on supporting smallholder farmers and rural households to mitigate the negative effects of multiple crises. FAO is delivering its assistance to Moldova based on the Country Programming Framework consisting of three priority areas (i) increasing competitiveness of the agriculture sector (ii) fostering sustainable agriculture and rural development (iii) management of natural resources and disaster risk management.
Tasks and responsibilities:
The Communication Assistant will have the following tasks and responsibilities:
- Assist in developing communications and visibility plans for all ongoing and new projects, providing capacity-building support in the communication and visibility area to project staff and local partners, as needed.
- Assist with and follow up on clearance processes of the communication, visibility materials, and publications in the Publications Workflow system (PWS) as well as of FAO logo use, ensuring compliance with FAO style and other corporate branding guidelines.
- Develop project briefs, articles, press releases, human stories, and other public information products in English and Romanian, including, where necessary photographic and video documentation on FAO activities.
- Assist in media relations and dissemination of relevant FAO materials for events/press conferences.
- Provide support in events organization and management.
- Assist in the development of public information/visibility products for FAO projects (i.e. inaugural/milestone events, brochures, posters, etc.) to enhance the quality and outreach of messaging for external stakeholders, including donors and the general public.
- Support the development of social media content plans, and regularly updates the FAO Moldova Twitter account.
- Contribute to monitoring and evaluation of communication efforts through regular reports, updates, and maintenance of relevant databases (photo, video, news archives, media, etc.).
- Participate in meetings and/or trainings scheduled and conducted by FAO and/or donors that support communication in the Organization.
- Perform any other duties as required.
Minimum Requirements
- University degree in Communications, Journalism, or equivalent.
- At least 2 years of relevant experience in the field of communication, particularly in producing information and communication materials.
- Excellent communication, networking, written and presentation skills.
- Experience in managing social media accounts.
- Proven ability in drafting texts in English.
- Proven ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
- Proficiency in using various digital tools and platforms for content creation and management/image editing etc.
- Familiarity with agriculture/food security issues and development/humanitarian contexts is desirable.
- Previous experience working for international organizations is highly desired.
- Proficiency in Romanian. Excellent working knowledge of English.
