Organizational Setting: FAO is implementing an emergency programme in Moldova to support vulnerable people living in rural areas with required agriculture inputs for the planting season and technical assistance on sustainable and resilient agriculture production. The aim of the Emergency Program is to mitigate the negative effects of the multiple crisis on agri-food systems. The activities will be implemented through three different projects with harmonized performance indicators and synergized outputs. 

Reporting Lines: The Livestock Specialist will perform duties under the overall supervision of the Assistant FAO Representative in Moldova, the technical supervision of the Agriculture Officer at the Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia and in collaboration with the relevant departments of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry.

Tasks and responsibilities:

The main role of the livestock specialist will be to identify priority resilience interventions in the livestock sector and support the development of technical material.

The incumbent will perform the following tasks and responsibilities:

• In close collaboration with the National Agency for Rural Development-ACSA (service provider), develop production sheets, dairy processes implementation, feeding norms for cattle and other related aspects presented in a manner accessible for people with no academic agricultural background and for use in Farmer Field School (FFS) activities
•  Supervise and appraise the trainings and FFS provided to livestock farmers by the service provider;
•  As necessary, provide hands on support during the implementation of livestock producer training and FFS program in close collaboration with implementing partners.
•  In collaboration with livestock experts in the Regional Bureau, conduct needs assessment to identify priority resilience interventions in the livestock sector;
•  Develop technical specifications for animal feed and other relevant inputs procurement;
• Participate in the development of a Post-Distribution Monitoring (PDM) questionnaire and support the implementation of PDM in the field;
• Contribute to baseline/end line assessment surveys and analyses in project areas;
•  Assist in the preparation of project reports, manual, guideline, case studies and success stories.
• Assist the Emergency Coordinator and LTO with required documents and arranging relevant meetings;
• Participate in trainings, workshops and other similar events with required expertise and presentations;
• Collect relevant information and data to be used for analysis and reports in the agriculture sector;
• Perform any other duties required for the successful implementation of the project.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, dairy, veterinary or economy
• Proved capacities in agribusiness and dairy sector development.
• Proved experience of theoretic and practical topics in dairy breeding: animal nutrition, veterinary, dairy farm management etc
