Medecins du Monde (MdM) France started its activities in Moldova due to the crisis in Ukraine, with the aim of helping refugees with medical and psychological needs. MdM and partners will launch an 18-month project focusing on health resiliency, social cohesion, and preparedness for Ukrainian refugees and host communities in Moldova.

Psychologist will be responsible for the following main activities:

Individual counselling

• Reception and/or identification of people experiencing psychological distress or mental health difficulties.
• Assess individual mental condition based on review of information, interviews, observation, and collaboration with other staff members
• Analysis of needs and requests of the individual.
• Creation of a treatment plan for patients based on the needs of the individual.
• Provision of individual counselling when needed
• Provision of psychoeducation to the patients and/or the family
• Referal of patients to other healthcare professionals if necessary.

Group Support

• Identification of needs in the refugee population (topics for group support)
• Preparation of group support to be implemented in communities, RACs or organisations
• Leading discussion groups and psychosocial activities
• Identification of field workers / volunteers in need of psychosocial support
• Organisation of group support (logistics)
• Facilitation of self-care group support

Activities design and implementation

• Definition appropriate MHPSS activities in accordance with MDM guidelines and supported by MHPSS coordinator.
• Planning support and implementation and follow-up of activities
• Identification of support and referral structures
• Possibly training of professionals or team representatives, such as primary health care centers
• Entering data and updating monitoring tools
• Preparation of presentation and prevention tools
• Writing of activity reports
• Following up with assigned task by line manager in the context of his/her area of expertise.
• Maintain confidentiality of records relating to patients' treatment

Main Skills: 

• Ability to create adapted framework to access the population.
• Identify the individual’s family and social environment and identify mental capacities and vulnerabilities.
• Understand the psychological consequences of migration and trauma.
• Understand clinical psychology and psychopathology.
• Interest in working with excluded populations.
• Lead individual and group counselling sessions.
• Conduct psychological interviews
• Draft and format clinical notes, documents and/or reports relating to the specialist area
• Identify and present key messages in the specialist area
• Know who health, social and medical-social actors are and understand related mechanisms
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
• Communicate (writing and speaking) in Russian and Romanian.
