Job brief – English to French (vice-versa)

We are looking for a Translator to translate and rephrase written materials, such as articles, blog posts, courses in the fields of Economics, Marketing, Finance, etc. The most important is making sure to maintain their original meaning, format, and tone.

Translator responsibilities include reading and thoroughly understanding the context of given material, using specialized terminologies and translation tools, and proofreading finished pieces of work. To be successful in this role, you should have a keen eye for detail and be proficient in both English and French.

Ultimately, you will provide ready-to-use translated content that meets our internal needs and helps us reach a broader audience.

Responsibilities

• Read given material and research industry-specific terminology
• Ensure translated content conveys original meaning and tone
• Cross-reference specialized dictionaries and translation tools to check the quality of translation
• Proofread translated texts for grammar, spelling, and punctuation accuracy
• Follow up with team members to ensure translation meets the needs
• Edit content with an eye toward maintaining its original format (e.g. font and structure)
• Rephrasing written content by maintaining the style and tone
• Network with field experts to stay current on new translation tools and practices (LinkedIn)

Requirements

• Proven work experience as a Translator, Interpreter, or similar role
• Proficiency in English and French
• Excellent proofreading skills with the ability to identify grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors
• Good knowledge of Office Suite and Apps
• Familiarity with translation software (MemoQ, Trados, Google Translate, etc)
• Time-management skills and task prioritization ability
• BSc in Translation, Interpreting or similar field
• Additional certification in Linguistics is a plus
