On March 23, 2026, the Local Transparency Council Cahul (LTC Cahul) held an extraordinary meeting during which several draft decisions for the Cahul Municipal Council meeting of March 25, 2026 were analyzed.
Particular emphasis was placed on ensuring the accessibility of public infrastructure for persons with disabilities and reduced mobility. Concrete proposals were formulated to supplement certain draft decisions related to urban planning documentation. These proposals aim to integrate accessibility requirements - such as compliant ramps and designated parking spaces into the urban planning process.
During the meeting, members of LTC Cahul also discussed improving decision-making transparency of the local pubic authorities. They supported postponing the review of amendments to the Statute and Regulation of “Apă-Canal Cahul” due to the absence of a substantiation note, and proposed the inclusion of a civil society representative in the Board of Directors of the Municipal Enterprise “Piața Centrală Cahul”.
The issue of tree cutting in the Frumoasa Lake area was also addressed. It was decided that, if necessary, an official request would be submitted to the Environmental Protection Inspectorate, following an on-site assessment by members of the Local Transparency Council Cahul.
All proposals and recommendations of LTC Cahul members were compiled into an official submission addressed to local public authorities, to be presented during the meetings of the specialized advisory committees of the Cahul Municipal Council on March 24, 2026.
The meeting was organized within the framework of the project “LTC Cahul – The Voice of Citizens in Local Governance”, implemented by the ECOU Association, as part of the INSPIRE Moldova initiative, funded by the European Union and implemented by People in Need Moldova (PIN Moldova).
The INSPIRE Moldova initiative aims to support civil society in the Republic of Moldova to actively influence national policies and contribute to the country’s integration into the European Union by engaging civil society organizations in political processes at both national and local levels, including through a strong digital component. The initiative also promotes dialogue and cooperation with public authorities, ensuring that civil society becomes a key actor in advancing democracy in Moldova.
