Terms of Reference – Field Photographer

• CV - that includes at minimum recent photography work, related trainings and certificates
• Consultancy Application Form – see attached below.
• Portfolio – that includes a file or link to recent work.

Background:

Changing the Way We Care^SM (CTWWC) is a global initiative to promote safe, nurturing families for children from residential institutions and children at-risk of family separation.  In Moldova, CTWWC is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), among others and is implemented by a consortium of NGOs led by Catholic Relief Services (CRS).  Fundamental to CTWWC’s design is collective action, which will require convening a variety of government and non-government stakeholders to plan and coordinate activities together. As a result, CRS anticipates a variety of events to take place over the next 12 months to advance the common agenda of this diverse team.

Purpose:

CRS seeks a professional photographer to document the work of the Changing the Way We Care^SM

Initiative in Moldova. Selected photos will be used in CTWWC publications including, but not limited to, websites, presentations, publications, social media posts and campaign materials.

Description of Work:

Contractor will accompany CRS/partner staff on field visits to document CTWWC work in communities throughout Moldova. Field visits may include visits to photograph children and care givers in residential institutions, small group homes, and private homes as well as periodic meetings and events to promote care reform. Photographs will be used to tell a visual story of how Moldova is changing the way it is providing care to vulnerable children and the impact that is having on the lives of these children and the communities they live in.

Deliverables:

• For each photography shoot, photographer shall provide a file of all images taken along with a minimum of 15 high-quality digital images (color or B&W).
• All digital photos must be shared with CRS staff within two days of a photo shoot.
• All digital originals should be shot at the highest resolution that the camera permits.
• Photographs should be shot in horizontal format.
• Photographs should be submitted as high-resolution jpeg or raw files (300 dpi at 2610 x 3900 pixels)
• Photographs must have metadata with captions, copyrights, and other relevant information. Caption information should be descriptive in either Romanian or English and include, at a minimum, full names of subjects, age, location, and date.
• Photography release forms must be obtained for all subjects. For children under 18, release forms must be signed by parents or legal guardians.
• Contractor must adhere to CRS’s photography standards and comply with CRS’s Policy on Safeguarding.
• Photographic services will be on an as-needed basis.

Qualifications :

• Minimum of three years of professional photography experience. Experience working in a humanitarian or social services context is highly desirable.
• Excellent visual/photographic skills with an understanding of visual storytelling
• In-depth knowledge of relevant computer software and hardware, especially Adobe Photoshop and MS Office.
• Fluency in oral and written Romanian, English strongly preferred.
• Willingness to travel to field locations across Moldova. Most trips will be within normal business hours but there will be occasionally long days (12 hours) due to travel distances or work during nights or weekends.

Conditions:

• All copyrights in all the photographs produced in the performance of this contract will be vested exclusively in CRS.
• Photographic equipment, including photo-editing software, will be provided by the contractor.
• Photographer shall provide his/her own transportation to/from locations, however, on a case-by-case basis CRS or partner may provide transportation based on vehicle availability.
• CRS will provide selected photographer with a briefing on the overall project, use and target audience of images, and CRS photography standards. As part of each requested service, CRS/partner will provide a brief orientation to the purpose of the event and the story board or types of images that may be useful to capture. Photographer shall do his/her utmost to capture all images for the mutually agreed story board.
