Terms of reference for the selection of an International Consultant/ Trainer to conduct the Early Adolescent Skills for Emotions (EASE) trainings

Background

The Association for Child and Family Empowerment “AVE Copiii” (hereinafter referred to as AO AVE Copiii) is a non-governmental, non-profit and apolitical organization committed to promoting and protecting the rights of children in the Republic of Moldova. AO AVE Copiii provides social, educational, psychological and other support for vulnerable children and adolescents, particularly those separated from their parents, affected by violence, neglect, exploitation, or in contact with the justice system. The organization also contributes to strengthening the capacities of professionals working in the field of child protection.

In partnership with UNICEF, AO AVE Copiii will organize training sessions for EASE Helpers. Early Adolescent Skills for Emotions (EASE) is a UNICEF-WHO group-based psychological intervention designed for young adolescents aged 10–15 years who are experiencing emotional distress, including stress and symptoms of anxiety or depression. EASE has been developed through a rigorous process of evidence review, expert consultation, research, and evaluation, and has been culturally and contextually adapted for implementation across diverse settings.

Objective of the Assignment

The objective of these Terms of Reference is to select one International Consultant/ Trainer with proven expertise in EASE and mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) to prepare and deliver one EASE training session for designated EASE Helpers in the Republic of Moldova, while also providing technical orientation and implementation guidance to the designated local supervisor.

AO AVE Copiii may, subject to the availability of funding, contract the selected Consultant/ Trainer for additional EASE training sessions under similar scope and conditions.

Scope of work

The selected International Consultant/ Trainer will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Prepare and conduct one EASE training session of approximately 10 days (80 hours), delivered online and/ or in person, as jointly agreed, for up to 10 EASE Helpers/ facilitators per training cohort, using official EASE training materials and adapting the content to participants’ learning needs and the local context.
  • Facilitate practical skills development of EASE Helpers through role plays, group exercises, experiential learning, competency-based feedback, and applied facilitation practice throughout the training process.
  • Provide technical guidance and orientation to the designated local supervisor on the EASE intervention model, supervision approaches, implementation considerations, quality assurance standards and practical recommendations for local implementation.
  • Prepare pre- and post-training evaluation tools to assess participants’ learning progress and training outcomes.
  • Prepare a final consultancy report summarizing implementation, results, recommendations, and next steps.

Required Qualifications and experience

The selected International Consultant/ Trainer should meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Completion of the official EASE classroom training, including the additional training module for supervisors.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the EASE intervention model, core principles, facilitation methodology, and supervision approach.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience in the field of mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), preferably in community-based and/or humanitarian settings.
  • At least 2 years of direct professional experience working with adolescents and their families and caregivers, including implementation of age-appropriate psychosocial or mental health interventions.
  • At least 2 years of professional experience in humanitarian, emergency, displacement, or refugee settings.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience providing supervision, coaching, mentoring, or technical support to non-specialized service providers, facilitators, or frontline workers.
  • Proven experience in delivering EASE interventions and/or other evidence-based cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) or structured psychological interventions for children, adolescents, and caregivers.
  • Demonstrated competence in facilitating EASE sessions and modelling core facilitation skills, including active listening, group facilitation, emotional regulation techniques, problem-solving approaches, supportive communication, and competency-based feedback.
  • Strong knowledge and practical understanding of global MHPSS guidelines, standards, and best practices, including community-based and child- and adolescent-focused approaches.
  • Proven experience in designing and delivering participatory training processes for adult learners, including role plays, experiential learning exercises, practical simulations, competency-based assessment, and constructive feedback.
  • Excellent facilitation, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with the ability to present complex concepts in a clear, practical, and accessible manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in multicultural and multidisciplinary environments, and to adapt training content and facilitation approaches to the local context and participants’ learning needs.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Romanian and/or Russian would be considered an asset.

Timeframe

The consultancy will be implemented during the period of June – July 2026.

All deliverables must be completed no later than 10 July 2026.

Payment Terms

Payments will be made upon satisfactory completion and validation of deliverables, as follows:

25% after the validation of Deliverable No. 1;

75% after the validation of Deliverable No. 4.
