In April 2018, the implementation of EU/Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC) funded Project: “Increasing the competitiveness of the agri-food sector through integration to domestic and global value chains in particular in the soya sector” started. The three years (April 2018- August 2021) project is implemented by Donau Soja - together with its consortium partner the Moldovan NGO Pro Didactica and aims to improve existing quality standards and to strengthen capacities in vocational education and training in agriculture. The project further complements the Moldova-component of the regionally organized Strategic Partnership between ADA and Donau Soja, which supports the building of sustainable and inclusive value-chains for GMO-free and organic soya in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Moldova and the Ukraine.
The project is focused on the following four components:
One of the main objectives of the project is to increase access to markets and expand the demand for certified and organic agri-food products on national and foreign markets and to cope with the market demands all involved value chain participants’ first need to be strengthened and then continuously supported. Regarding domestic utilization, opportunities exist in building integrated value chains for feed and livestock producers. As a prerequisite of domestic demand, consumers need to be aware and better informed about issues related to the importance and the current state and future of agriculture, up and down sides in food production including quality standards in the agri-food sector, food safety, and its relevance and impact on the environment, as well as on human and animal health.
Genetically modified (GM) crops were introduced to the market in the mid-1990s. With all controversies they stirred, they seemed to have been endorsed by farmers with their cost-saving benefits. In contrast, it is often mentioned that consumers are not receiving any direct benefit from them and are not even aware when they consume such GMO with their food. Biotech companies may list a number of potential benefits to consumers, such as reduced use of herbicides and pesticides in crop production, improved nutritional values of foods, or reduced food prices. Such “benefits” do not seem compelling enough to offset potential risks required to take in consuming GM foods.
Under the current circumstances, consumers must take an extra step to avoid GM foods, for instance, by purchasing foods labeled as non-GM products (which is rare or almost missing in Moldova) or organic foods.
For over 20 years, Moldovan company Angromix SRL provides the market in the Republic of Moldova with high quality natural vegetarian foodstuffs. The company produces over 30 types of soy and chickpea products, using local raw materials. Particular attention is paid to the quality of the raw material and absence of GMOs and pesticides.
Among the company's products are: soymilk, humus, pâté, soy cheese, tofu cheese, falafel and burgers, produced from the local soybean variety - "Aura". The shelf life of the products is as short as 7-10 days, which indicates their natural content.
Recently, Angromix SRL implemented the ISO 22000 and the HCCP Standards with the support of Donau Soja, in the framework of the European Union financed and ADA implemented project aimed at soya value chain development. Moreover, the company will be audited in 2021 to get the non-GMO produced certification according to Donau Soja non-GMO Standard. This will be the first Moldovan company to be certified by the respective standard.
In this context, Donau Soja Moldova office invites local creative agencies to submit their offers with the view to develop the image of Angromix SRL as a producer of “non-GMO produced” certified soya foodstuffs and develop the design for the following labels and visual materials, based on the Donau Soja “Standard production labelling”:
