The Moldova Resilience Fund is pleased to announce the launch of its 2026 funding opportunities for independent media organizations, civic organizations, and nonprofit institutions working to strengthen democratic resilience in Moldova.
MRF was created to support independent journalism, civic activism, democratic participation, and fact-based public discourse. In 2026, MRF will provide responsive funding to help organizations invest in early-career journalists, strengthen institutional sustainability, support professional development, and respond to urgent needs.
The MRF Emerging Journalists Fellowship is a pilot program supporting early-career journalists working within independent Moldovan media organizations.
The program will support six fellows in 2026. Each fellowship provides $1,400 in funding to the participating media organization, intended to support compensation for the fellow over a six-month period.
Independent media organizations may nominate up to two fellows. Eligible fellows should be early-career journalists with less than two years of professional journalism experience.
Application deadline: July 31, 2026
MRF Travel Mini-Grants provide rolling support of up to $500 for journalists and representatives of independent media or civic organizations.
These grants may support travel-related expenses connected to professional development, conferences, trainings, cross-border reporting, study visits, or other opportunities that strengthen the applicant’s work.
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Decisions will normally be made within seven days.
MRF Innovation Grants support practical experiments that help independent media and civic organizations become more resilient, sustainable, and effective.
Examples of eligible activities may include audience growth experiments, membership or subscription systems, fundraising infrastructure, CRM implementation, earned revenue projects, advertising systems, events, translation or localization, podcast monetization, audience analytics, operational improvements, or other initiatives that strengthen long-term organizational resilience.
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
MRF Emergency Funding is available for urgent, time-sensitive needs connected to independent journalism, civic resilience, and public-interest work.
Examples may include emergency reporting trips, urgent technical or operational needs, support for ongoing investigations, or other costs that cannot be met quickly enough through traditional funding channels.
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
These funding opportunities are intended for independent media organizations, civic organizations, nonprofit institutions, journalists, and other public-interest actors working in Moldova or on issues directly relevant to Moldova’s democratic resilience.
