The UNDP Programme Unit works to support achievement of UNDP strategic objectives and to support the Republic of Moldova in achieving sustainable development goals, with a particular focus on fostering solutions where people and planet thrive together. Guided by the UNDP’s Strategic Plan and the Country Programme Document of 2023-2027, the Programme Unit is dedicated to advancing integrated, innovative and impactful programming that promote a more cohesive, inclusive, just and resilient society, supported by a better quality of life for everyone.
The Environment, Energy, and Climate Change Cluster within the UNDP Moldova Programme Unit plays a leading role in addressing the country’s pressing environmental and climate challenges while unlocking opportunities for sustainable and inclusive green development. The Cluster drives systemic transformation by advancing ambitious climate, energy, and environmental policies aligned with national and international frameworks, such as the European Green Deal and the Paris Agreement.
It champions innovative solutions, including nature-based approaches, renewable energy adoption, and sustainable resource management, to enhance ecosystem resilience and strengthen energy security. By empowering communities, particularly women, youth, and marginalized groups, the Cluster fosters inclusive participation in climate action and environmental governance.
Through targeted capacity-building initiatives and knowledge sharing, the Cluster strengthens national and local abilities to plan and implement climate-sensitive practices. It connects stakeholders across sectors, mobilizes resources from global climate funds and diverse partnerships, and scales up impactful interventions. Additionally, the Cluster ensures the integration of environmental and climate considerations into broader socio-economic frameworks, promoting inter-agency collaboration and laying the foundation for an inclusive, just, and resilient future for Moldova.
Programme staff support the Country Office in designing and implementing forward-looking programme strategies that not only address immediate development challenges but also drive long-term, integrated systemic change. By fostering resilience, capacity building, and innovation, they enable transformative solutions that contribute to sustainable and inclusive development outcomes for Moldova.
