Duties

Working in the Facility Management/ General Services section of US Embassy Chisinau, the Lead Maintenance Technician (Grounds and Custodial) supervises 7 LE staff workers (2 Gardeners and 5 Custodians). Incumbent is responsible for ensuring the quality of cleaning, gardening services and grounds maintenance at the Embassy compound, as well as gardening services at dedicated residences and for short periods at housing pool residences.

Job holder serves as Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR) on the Embassy Gardening Services Contract.

Qualifications and Evaluations

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of three (3) years of experience managing gardening and/or custodial services and/or contracts is required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE:

1. Managing contractors and staff.
2. Record keeping.
3. Reading and working with formal contracts.
4. Good working knowledge of how to plant/transplant shrubs, flowers etc. typical for the area required.
5. Maintenance of gardens and lawns using knowledge of gardening techniques are required.

Education Requirements:

Completion of Secondary School is required and completion of vocational training in building maintenance, technical or a construction field is required.

LANGUAGE:  Level III (Good working knowledge) Speaking/Reading/Writing English is required. Level III (Good working knowledge) speaking/reading/writing Romanian and Russian is required. (This may be tested.)

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  

1. Communication and interpersonal skills to answer queries from end-users.
2. Organizational skills, in order to maintain records on contractor performance.
3. Ability to work as part of a team, work under pressure and a tight schedule.
4. A flexible approach to work shifts and answer emergency calls at all hours.
5. ​Ability to physically perform arduous tasks as well as work independently.
6. ​Ability to use hand tools and operate motorized equipment and vehicles, such as mowers, sprinklers, etc. Ability to use all gardening tools​ and swimming pool, cleaning equipment​.
7. Must be able to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds / 25 kg.
8. Must possess valid host country type B driver's license. Must have had driver’s license for a minimum of five years (Driving skills may be tested.)
