Duties

Provides security for Embassy personnel and facilities by conducting access control and visitor screening duties as a member of a local guard program. Detects, deters, responds, and reports potential criminal and terrorists’ acts directed against U.S. Government personnel and facilities. Senior Local guards provide limited work guidance on access control and security equipment operations for up to 10 guards. The incumbent supervises day-to-day performance of his/her subordinates (3-4 guards), oversees guard operations in Compound Access Control  (CACs), and performs static and roving security activities (access control, security screening, emergency response, etc.) to protect U.S. Government personnel (and visitors to U.S. Government facilities), facilities, assets, and information against harm, loss, and/or embarrassment. Operationally the incumbent reports to the Shift Supervisor.  The incumbent is rated by the Shift Supervisor and reviewed by the ARSO.                                                                                                                                                       

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:

EXPERIENCE: Minimum one year of experience in the military or as a police officer, or security guard required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of the emergency response procedures and notification process, familiarity with state-of-the-art security equipment and processes, awareness of cultural norms and customs required.

Education Requirements:

• Completion of secondary education, high school diploma or the local equivalent is required.

Evaluations:

LANGUAGE: Level II (Limited Knowledge) Speaking/Reading/Writing English is required. Level III (Good Working Knowledge) speaking/reading/writing Romanian is required. Level III (Good Working Knowledge) speaking/reading/writing Russian is required.  (This may be tested.)

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

1. Must be able to understand the security control panel and to operate emergency alarms and the public address system. 
2. Must be able to use state-of-the-art security and radio communication equipment. 
3. Must be able to use Automated External Defibrillator.  Ability to use fire extinguisher.
4. Must be able to use personal protective equipment (i.e. batons, pepper spray, handcuffs, and flexi cuffs, etc.).
5. Must be able to walk and/or stand for extended periods in a wide variety of weather conditions.
6. Must be able to work flexible shift schedules, to include nights, days, weekends, and/or holidays. Must be able to take action with guidance as necessary depending on the nature of incidents outlined in guard orders. 
7. Must be able to communicate with persons from all socioeconomic classes. 
8. Must be familiar with dispute mediation tactics to ease potentially dangerous security situations.
9. Computer skill is required.
