Terms of Reference – Graphic Designer

Background:

Changing the Way We CareSM (CTWWC) is a global initiative to promote safe, nurturing families for children from residential institutions and children at-risk of family separation. In Moldova, CTWWC is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), among others and is implemented by a consortium of NGOs led by Catholic Relief Services (CRS). Fundamental to CTWWC is collective action that will require convening a variety of government and non-government stakeholders to plan and coordinate activities together. As a result, CRS anticipates hosting several events and disseminating a variety of communications products over the next 12 months for which graphic design services are needed.

Purpose:

CRS seeks a graphic designer to create powerful visual materials that help raise awareness of the situation of vulnerable children and families in Moldova and highlight the impact of Changing the Way We CareSM in strengthening families and reforming national systems of protection and care for children.

Description of Work:

The graphic designer will develop visual products on an as-requested basis. Designated CRS staff will provide an assignment brief for each design product requested. Throughout the process the graphic designer will receive regular input from CRS and the broader CTWWC team until a final version is agreed upon. On occasion, the graphic designer should participate in meetings and working sessions to develop products and adjust based on feedback. The number and specification of the various graphic design products as well as the draft production and review timeline will be agreed upon by the contractor and CRS before work commences.

The contractor, in close coordination with CRS communications staff, will:

Transform text-based communication materials into visual graphic design materials.

Develop infographics using CTWWC data to present core messages and organize complex information into visual representations.
Design, layout and format printed and web-based communications materials, taking into account CRS/CTWWC branding guidelines.
Design and create illustrations, art-work, maps, tables, and animations for communications and promotional materials.
Provide recommendations on the best and most relevant design style suitable for the identified target audience.
Ensure that final output(s) for each communication product is web-ready and/or print ready

Qualifications :

Minimum of three years of professional graphic design experience. Experience working in a humanitarian or social services context is highly desirable.
Bachelors’ Degree in graphic design or other related qualifications including art and design.
Excellent graphic design and creative skills with an understanding of visual storytelling
In-depth knowledge of relevant design software such as Adobe In-Design, Corel Draw, or similar software.
Fluency in oral and written Romanian required, proficiency in English highly preferred.

Conditions:

All designs produced in the performance of this contract will be vested exclusively in CRS.
Graphic designer shall use his/her own equipment, software, and workspace but be available for periodic in-person and online meetings with the CRS and CTWWC team.
CRS will provide an overall in-briefing orientation to the program, communications objectives, and style guide.

Graphic Design services will be on an as-needed basis.
