HelpAge International helps older people claim their rights, challenge discrimination and overcome poverty, so that they can lead dignified, secure, active and healthy lives.

We work with our partners to ensure that people everywhere understand how much older people contribute to society and that they must enjoy their right to healthcare, social services, economic and physical security. We do this by supporting practical programmes, giving a voice to older people and influencing policy at local, national and international levels.

To support communication function of the country programme, HelpAge International Moldova is looking for the following position:

 

Communications Officer

As Communications Officer, you will be responsible for raising visibility and promoting understanding of HelpAge’s work in Moldova and the issues with which it is concerned, through media, publishing and information activities, and through advocacy and campaigning work. You will be responsible for providing direction on communications and advocacy and building a strong profile for HelpAge International in Moldova.

Main priorities and tasks

  • Build profile and influence of HelpAge Moldova in the country and within HelpAge’s regional office (Eurasia and Middle East – EME) in Amman, Jordan and head office in London, UK.
  • Support the Country Director to develop communications strategy in line with country and regional targets with an objective to strengthen the role of HelpAge in Moldova in advocating for the rights of older people.
  • Design communications systems to reach to key stakeholders and audiences and co-ordinate communication activities to support communications and advocacy work in key areas of HelpAge’s work in Moldova.
  • Maintain and develop the relationship with the media representatives, organise events with participation of the media and ensure media coverage, create and maintain a media database;
  • Coordinate delivering of HelpAge’s global campaign agenda, and HelpAge campaigns in Moldova in collaboration with the regional and head offices, as for example, HelpAge’s branded campaign “Age Demands Action”.
  • Edit, manage and develop regular publications such as newsletters, case studies, social media messages, project summaries and conferences, etc.
  • Compile, produce and disseminate briefing papers, articles and press releases on ageing issues in collaboration with programme staff and programme partners
  • Develop and administer HelpAge Moldova website, (responsible for the content and updates), manage social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.).

You will have at least 3 years of experience in working with development agencies or equivalent and educated to a degree level in journalism, communications, international relations, media or equivalent. You will have proven ability to write accessibly for different audiences and to interpret information for them. You will also have strong editing, proof-reading, production and print management skills. You are self-motivated and working well  under pressure when things get very busy. You work well in a team, and have excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, you are diplomatic and tolerant. You are flexible and available to travel as required, sometimes at short-notice. You are expected to have good IT skills, web-design and social media publications skills. You communicate well with others, verbally and in writing in Romanian and Russian (optional) and have fluent English both written and spoken.

The post is based in Chisinau and is a full time position with the initial one-year contract starting in January 2019.
