NGO  “FATIMA” recalls Republic of Moldova  to ratify the Convention of Rights of Migrants

On 4 December 2000, the UN General Assembly, taking into account the large and increasing number of migrants in the world, declared  18 December as International Migrants Day. Taking into consideration the topicality of this issue, NGO “FATIMA” urges the Moldavian community, media and state officials to revise its attitude to the problem of migrants community in Moldova.  We want to express our concern over the fact that Moldova still did not ratify the Convention of Rights of Migrants which has been adopted  by the United Nations General Assembly on 18 December 1990.

We pursue the civil society of Moldova to unite around this proble and raise up its voice through the activities of commom action. Moldova should be a place were people of different social and national status could freely enjoy their rights. Moldova traditionally has been percieved as a country with bright tradition of hospitality, thus we want our country to be the hospital not only by words, but also by the actions. Moldova should be a place for a better life for all of us despite our ethnicity, nationality and country of origin.

The Migrant Workers Convention has been ratified by 46 states and signed by a further 17 states. The Convention recognises the human rights of migrant workers and promotes their access to justice as well as to humane and lawful working and living conditions. It provides guidance on the elaboration of national migration policies and for international cooperation based on respect for human rights and the rule of law. It sets out provisions to combat abuse and exploitation of migrant workers and members of their families throughout the migration process. We strongly believe that ratification of the Convention of Rights of Migrants will bring Moldova to a more prosper and rich, both in cultural and economical ways future. We also consider that ratification of the Convention of Rights of Migrants with the following realization of the obligation uder the Convention will bring Moldova closer to the standarts proclaimed by European community which our country tends to be part of.

NGO „Fatima” wants to express its support to all the migrants all over the world, we assure you that we will continue our struggle in the sphere of anti-discrimination, migrants rights, anti-xenophobia and anti-racism as independently, as well as being member of UNITED for Intercutural action for migrants rights and against fashism.
