Internews in Moldova and the Independent Journalism Center, under the USAID funded project MEDIA-M, is hiring an expert to develop a new Curriculum for Chisinau School of Advanced Journalism

Position: Expert/consultant to develop a new Curriculum for the Chisinau School of Advanced Journalism, CSAJ, a project of the Independent Journalism Center.

Background: Chisinau School of Advanced Journalism is a ten-month long professional training program, teaching journalism practical media skills. The project was launched in September 2006. In December 2016 CSAJ carried out a Curriculum’s evaluation. Taking into consideration the modern challenges of the media a new Curriculum’s design is needed to respond to the ever changing realities of the journalistic work, including social media, innovations and new media tools.

Responsibilities:

  • To analyze the existing CSAJ Curriculum’s evaluation, its current state in the framework of Moldovan media;
  • To evaluate how the current curriculum meets the requirements of modern journalism and its challenges;
  • To provide recommendations and suggestions about the courses that should be either excluded, adjusted or introduced from scratch, so that the teaching content offered by the School of Advanced Journalism could be brought into line with new trends in the media;
  • To design the new Curriculum in cooperation with CSAJ team according to modern journalistic trends;
  • To offer specific guidance in terms of classes/ days, length of courses and evaluation criteria.

Selection criteria:

  • Higher education in journalism, social sciences and other relevant areas;
  • Experience with similar activities;
  • Advanced knowledge of education/ training in journalism;
  • Deep knowledge of new trends in the media;
  • Capacity to analyze, monitor, synthesize, and evaluate.

  • CV, including two references for similar assignments;
  • Methodology to be used for this activity;
  • Financial offer.

The Independent Journalism Center (IJC) is a non-governmental, non-profit, apolitical organization which provides assistance to journalists and media outlets in Moldova. IJC’s Mission is to facilitate the development of information society by strengthening free and viable media, including new media, through projects providing education in journalism, media advocacy campaigns, research, media literacy and non-profit journalistic products. This activity is part of the USAID-funded project “Media Enabling Democracy, Inclusion and Accountability in Moldova” (MEDIA-M) and implemented by Internews in Moldova, in partnership with the Independent Journalism Center and Freedom House. MEDIA-M aims to promote the development of an independent, professional media, and to create a media sector that is more resilient to political and financial pressures.
